Why giving a “Hand Up” surpasses a “Hand Out”
Although well intended, giving a “hand out” can sometimes be destructive to one’s poverty.
Drug use and mental illnesses can be problematic. 1 in 4 panhandlers meet the clinical definition of being an alcoholic and another 32% are addicted to at least one drug other than alcohol. Through personalized case mangement, we identify the barriers our clients face in restoring their livelihood and independence. We collaborate with other agencies and nonprofits so that we can access resources and deliver innovative solutions. Poverty is more than a lack of income. It is an absence of resources to survive.
